Job Overview
The Winnipeg Regional Health Authority (WRHA) is hiring Health Care Aides (HCAs) to join the team and assist clients in a variety of health care settings. We are committed to providing high-quality, equitable care. This position is casual, with the expectation of working weekends as needed. As a casual employee, you will be required to work at least two shifts per month and cannot decline more than three shifts within 90 days.
Position Duties
- Assist clients/patients with daily activities such as bathing, dressing, eating, and personal care to promote independence.
- Work under the supervision of the manager or a designated person to provide care in line with established standards and procedures.
- Support clients in reaching and maintaining optimal health based on their abilities.
- Assist with any changes in the health needs of clients/patients and provide direct care.
- Work in community settings (clients’ homes), health care centers, or hospitals, depending on the assignment.
- Provide other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
- Minimum Grade 10 education and successful completion of a recognized Health Care Aide course.
- Experience working with individuals who have physical or cognitive impairments is preferred.
- Ability to offer personal care with respect for privacy and comfort.
- Strong communication skills, both verbally and in writing, to interact with clients, families, and coworkers.
- Ability to think critically and apply knowledge in daily tasks.
- Good organizational skills to prioritize and complete tasks efficiently.
- Basic computer skills (MS Word, Outlook); experience with electronic charting systems may be preferred.
- Must be able to work independently and as part of a team.
- A valid Manitoba Class 5 driver’s license and reliable vehicle are required for community-based work.
- Current Basic Cardiac Life Support (BCLS) training may be required in some cases.
- Knowledge of Indigenous customs and values is preferred; ability to speak French may also be required.
Physical Requirements
- Ability to handle physical tasks such as standing, transferring, and moving patients/equipment (up to 20 kg).
- Must be able to work shift work, including weekends.
- Willing to travel between clients’ homes as needed.
Additional Requirements
- A criminal records check, including Vulnerable Sector Search, and Child and Adult Abuse Registry checks are required for employment.
- Candidates may be asked to participate in a skills assessment during the interview process.
