A Story of Change

Tina Kyambadde, our Uganda manager, flew out to Utah to speak at our recent February 1st gala. During Tina's speech, she talked about the changes occurring in the lives of the women in Uganda. One of the most powerful things she mentioned was an experience she recently had.

Tina was taking a normal administrative trip to the health clinic in Lugazi when something amazing happened. While going about her normal routine, Tina was stopped by some of the staff. The nurses pulled her aside and with concerned expressions asked, "Are your women okay?"

Tina was caught off-guard and unsure why the nurses were inquiring about the women in this way. With confusion in her voice, she replied, "Yes. Why wouldn't they be?"

Tina was absolutely moved when the nurses replied, "We haven't seen any of them this entire month."
Tina explained that for the first time ever, none of the women or their children had to go to the hospital that month. The vaccinations, mosquito nets, health classes, and overall benefits of becoming educated had proven successful.

While the nurses were concerned that something bad had happened to the women, it was actually quite the opposite. The nurses hadn't seen the women because they were working, taking classes, and providing for their families without the interruption of illness and disease.

Through stable employment and education, women are empowered to break the cycle of poverty in their families and communities.

We are so appreciative of your support. Without it, our success would be impossible. Thank you for being a part of the change.
